I just thought I would let everyone know that I am applying to the Masters program here at BYU and plan to start classes this coming fall. I will probably take some intro classes this summer to get up to speed. I am really looking forward to becoming legit and able to really know what I am talking about though that remains to be seen...
On a side note, I have been asked by Rich Talbot, Director of OPA to make everyone on FOF aware that OPA plans is offering two full-time 1 year positions as operating archaeologists. This is a big deal and an amazing opportunity for anyone wanting some major responsibilities and time working with two of the best field archaeologists in the state of Utah. Those interested need to contact Debbie Silversmith at 801.422.0024 or apply online at yjobs.byu.edu.

1st response: Good for you Scott! You've been doing alot already, now you'll get the official background.
2nd response: Man, what I wouldn't give to be a full time archaeologist working with Rich and Lane.
3rd response: What the crap! How did Uncle OPA swing this one? Scott, give us the haps! Where did the money come from, what will they be working on, one year chance to stay or one year and that's it, is daily Fresca included?
Congrats, Scott. I think you are one of the most outstanding students I have ever had the privilege of working with and I'm sure you'll be a huge asset whereever you go. On a side note, Rich just had everyone at Sand Hollow II opening up a 14 by 5 meter area with an overburden of about a half meter with nothing but shovels. Stories of his getting soft are greatly exaggerated.
Awww yeah Scott, that's awesome!!
graphic designer
turned to archaeology
Time for sweeeeet Fresca!!!
Bringin' yourself down to our level, eh? Well, don't believe anything they say, man--rust is where it's at!
Dude, your thesis is gonna have freakin' awesome graphics! I smell a best seller!
Scott,
I raise my Fresca to you!
welcome aboard.
Scott,
congrats and all the best of luck
I checked yjobs and haven't seen these posted yet. The only ad was for 10-15 "Archaeological Crew Members". I was wondering what $$ the Boss was offering, even though I can't take the job.
Wow! Thanks for all of the great support everyone! I am really looking forward to getting my hands "dirty".
More Job Info:
I talked to Debbie this morning about the OPA job openings. They will only last a year which is based on the current project load. The salary will be determined by BYU HR which is based on the job description. Full BYU benefits are included which is a HUGE incentive (they have some of the best in the state). Basically OPA is looking for someone with a Masters degree who has extensive experience and can work without supervision and manage their own crew. I wish I could offer more info but thats all I have right now.
