Recently I came across an underwater archaeological investigation of Montezuma's Well, a Southern Sinagua site in Central Arizona. These investigations are not uncommon in Meso either.
It makes me want to dive down to the bottom of the Filmore hotspring and see if there might be any artifacts down there. The thing is deep (ca. 20 feet) and seems to be pretty geologically stable. What if there was a cache of Clovis points down there? Any thoughts...

well, if the Fremont are indeed Lamanites, and the Lamanites in Mesoamerica used Cenotes, then I don't see why we wouldn't find ritual items at the bottom of the hot springs in Fillmore.
In all seriousness, it would be interesting to see if said hot springs had any ritual significance.
Or even if there was just trash thrown in there. It would demonstrate us of the spring anyway.
Sounds exotic...Seriously though, I think that it is an interesting question. I wonder if there any ethnographic accounts of the use of hot springs by native North Americans.
Do we know how many hotsprings like that there are in Fremont-land? Couldn't really be too many, and if you're gonna do one, do 'em all and make a real study of it. Interesting stuff!
If I didn't have an inner ear problem with pressurizing I would be all over it. Sadly I can't go below 10-12 feet.
I hang my head in shame.
The following hot springs are located in the Fremont area.
1. Soda Springs (extreme northern Utah)
2. Ogden
3. Lehi
4. Diamond Fork (Spanish Fork Canyon)
5. Delta
6. Fillmore
Unfortunately, all of the other springs are located in shallow drainages, and would not have any intact material in direct association.
There are some in Monroe Utah as well, ran by some hippie type folks. There is a trailer park by them that we used to tract in occasionally.
I forgot about the Monroe springs. Those are the only ones I never made it out to, so it gets left off my list.
I wonder if the Fremont would hike to the hot springs nekkid...
This is one context where Historic trash would also be interesting.
Pioneer hot spring parties?
I wonder if the pioneers hiked to the hot springs nekkid...=)
